Who do you think has done all the mischievous actions mentioned in the poem? Why?
The mischievous actions in the poem were unintentional and seem almost magical in nature. The ambiguous tone and the surreal events described hint at the possibility of the mischievous actions being a result of superstitious beliefs or perhaps even the narrator's imagination rather than being done by a specific person or entity.

While you were out
a cup went and broke itself,
a crack appeared in the blue vase
your great-great grandad
brought back from Mr Ming in China.
What did the child tell the mother?
What do you think really happened?
1. The child told the mother that a series of mysterious events occurred while she was out. A cup broke itself, a crack appeared in the ancient blue vase, the sink overflowed without the tap being turned on, a jam stain appeared on the kitchen wall, the washing machine turned on with the cat inside, the pet rabbit interacted with the waste-disposal unit, and muddy footprints appeared on the new white carpet. The child claims to have been behaving well and suggests that the house may be haunted. Due to these unusual occurrences, the child decided to go to Gran's house.
2. It is the result of the child playing around and not being careful - breakage of the cup and the vase, overflowing the sink, staining the wall with jam, possibly putting the cat into the washer, and potentially letting the rabbit near the waste-disposal unit. The child tracks muddy footprints throughout the house. The child's explanation of them as haunted house phenomena is an excuse designed to avoid punishment.
