Edward Albert Guest, known popularly as Eddie Guest, was born in Birmingham, England in the year 1881. He moved to the United States as a child and eventually became a naturalized American citizen. Guest, often called 'the poet of the people', was a prolific writer and a celebrated personality of his time. He made a name for himself by writing uplifting and optimistic poems that resonated with the common man.
His straightforward and simple style often painted vivid pictures of everyday life, encapsulating aspects of perseverance, positivity, courage, and hard work. This made his work widely appreciated as well as highly relatable.
Guest worked for most of his life as a journalist with the Detroit Free Press and also hosted a long-running radio show. He authored more than twenty volumes of poetry and became a household name for his heartening and inspirational work. He passed away in 1959, leaving behind an extensive catalogue of work that continues to inspire readers to this day.
